Being 22...

Yesterday was my 22nd birthday, for friends & family that forgot their well-wishes... you SUCK!!!

I've always imagined that birthday will be a day that stands out from all other ordinary days that it will be different. But actually besides the cake, presents and dinner, it is just another day... Now, I know I sound pesimistic, but it is the truth. Has anyone ever come to a sudden realisation of life on their birthday?? I doubt it but that is not the point. What makes birthdays significant is... love. Ok, I'm not saying that if you didn't get presents, well-wishes then people don't love you. What I meant is that the day itself is filled with love - all the world's love on the day that you are born. So, yes I was very loved yesterday!!!

Something else about birthdays... my dad always says "getting older means more responsibilities...". Hmmm, another profound thought. If getting older means to take on more responsibilities, then to whom or what should you be responsible to/for?? Isn't responsibility also expectations? And if these expectations come from others, by trying to live up to all these expectations, don't you end up living others' lives?

My point? I think getting older means more responsibilities - responbilities towards yourself and your actions. It is about living up to your own expectations, understanding that growing up is about taking charge of your life that you get to decide how to live your life, and others can only learn to accept it. And the meaning of growing up or getting older is whether or not you accept such responsibility.
