What English Speaking Country Are You?

You Belong in New Zealand
Good on ya, mate. You're the best looking one of the bunch. Though you're often forgotten... You're quite proud of who you are.

Eish!! I can't believe this! I'm totally offended, I'm suppose to be a South African. I haven't even been to New Zealand. No offence to the Kiwis, but I still perfer to be a South African. Lekker boet!!

Ramadan

It is Ramadan again. I can't say that I'm an expert on Islam, but I certainly try to understand. I was at a forum the other day, and it was quite interesting to hear some of the young people's thought on their perceptions of Muslims. There was this guy who seemed to know what he was talking about, while the rest had whole lots of misconceptions.

Yesterday my sister mentioned that for certain reasons some of the Muslim friends she knew, although they aren't even so faithful normally, will start fasting and praying during Ramadan. It is interesting and weird, exactly her words. Perhaps people think it is a weir practice, but I'd like to think of it similar to Christmas, Chinese New Years, Diwali, or Yom Kippur. During these festivals, we do things we don't normally do. Just because we don't understand why certain religions practice certain rituals, it doesn't make people who practice it fanatics, it just means that we should learn more about that certain religion or culture, so we can stop stereotyping them.

Anyway, if anyone who is interested in finding out what Ramadan is like, you can check out "Blogging Ramadan". It is a unconventional way of getting to know about being a Muslim and celebrating Ramadan. Not your usual mainstream media for sure.

Which is scarier?

There's a new poll running on 5fm, which asked which scary movie is the scariest. The options were: The Exorcist, The Ring, Hannibal, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Blair Witch Project, and Poltergiest. The top 3 were: The Exorcist - 37%, The Ring - 24% and Hannibal - 11%.

Personally, I voted for The Exorcist, even though I've never seen it, and I don't plan on doing it EVER. What surprised me was The Ring coming in at number 2... why was it scary?! I mean it's a re-make of a Japanese movie, with the typical "ghost" from Japanese films. No offense to the Japanese, but their ghost is really not scary, they are actually just creepy... well, perhaps that qualifies it.

COD: OD on CSI

A couple of months back I mentioned that my sister and I are addicted to CSI. Well, next Tuesday is likely to be the day that we "OD" (over-dosed) on CSI. October 10th is the National Day of Taiwan, and one of the channels decided to "celebrate" National Day by having a "CSI Marathon" for 11 hours. Yep, you heard me right - 11 hours, from morning till night.
